We very much look forward to welcoming you in Lugano.

The Idea

The Middle East Mediterranean region, a geopolitical space deeply affected by disorder and convulsions both on land and sea, has undergone profound and rapid changes over the past few years. From upheavals of this magnitude, a new world order has emerged for the twenty-first century. From East to West, North to South of the extended Middle East Mediterranean region – from Iran to Algeria and from Syria to the Sudan – several elements of young civil societies are working together across the political spectrum, weaving the threads of dialogue, civic liberties, and sustainable development. Such initiatives are not necessarily in the media spotlight, but together make up a major network from which tomorrow’s social fabric will emerge. It is a phenomenon that Europe must welcome and encourage, if only to ensure its own security in an area of shared prosperity with its southern neighbours. It is precisely with this in mind that the programme of this Summit was conceived.

The Summit – designed as an intellectual and social exchange across borders, cultures and languages – is composed of two parts: an eight-day Seminar and a two-day Forum. The emphasis is on the need and ambition to pursue an incisive analysis and reflection on the complex challenges facing the extended Middle East Mediterranean region.

Our main objectives are:

to offer a safe space for dialogue between young change-makers from the Middle East Mediterranean region where to lay out a vision for common future of the region, by starting from the present
to build a common ground and intergenerational exchange between young people and decision-makers, public and private institutions, non-profit organisations, social enterprises
to develop novel approaches to tackle persisting critical issues
to act as a breeding ground for developing across border and multilateral project proposals
to initiate collaboration and start networks among several actors in the region

Application
Applications for the MEM Summer Summit 2020 are now open.
The MEM Summer Summit Middle East Mediterranean (MEM) Summer Summit 2020 in Lugano, Switzerland (Funding available)

It also promotes, recognizes and rewards passion and creativity in biomedical research while underlying the commitment of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies to scientific excellence in the advance of healthcare knowledge while also its responsibility to the community.

Each year, a gold and bronze sculpture along with a $200,000 cash prize is awarded to the most passionate and creative scientist or group of scientists in basic or clinical research, whose achievements have made or have strong potential to make a measurable impact on human health.

The profoundly representative award sculpture consists of two parts, each inspired by the life and work of Dr. Paul. The glass-and-bronze sculpture was conceived by Gravity DesignWorks, Inc. and handcrafted by noted glass artist Don Gonzalez, while the three-inch fine silver medallion fringed in gold and set at the base of the sculpture depicts Dr. Paul in the lab, and was handcrafted by Caesar Rufo, one of America's foremost metallic sculptors.

The silver ball at the back emphasizes the point of scientific inspiration and discovery, while the glass wall represents the unending frontier of science and medicine. This innovative journey becomes breakthrough at the point of intersection, transforming into a fully realized and rounded idea of translational medicine.

An inscription on the back of the medallion says ”What's New?" - a nod to Dr. Paul's daily question in his research & development lab; a question that at once inspired and encouraged his colleagues to seek new compounds that might one day lead to new medicines for patients.

FOR MORE INFORMATION PLEASE OPEN THIS LINK

Johnson & Johnson Dr. Paul Janssen Award 2020 for Biomedical Research

Each fellow works one-on-one with a mentor at a U.S. university, research center or government agency, usually for 8-12 weeks. The U.S. mentor will later visit the fellow’s home institution to continue collaboration. Fellows may also attend professional conferences and events within their field, such as the annual World Food Prize Symposium.

The Borlaug Fellowship Program honors Norman E. Borlaug, the American agronomist, humanitarian and Nobel laureate known as the “father of the Green Revolution.” Since the program’s inception in 2004, approximately 800 fellows from 64 countries have participated in research and training focused on a wide array of agriculture-related topics, including agronomy, veterinary science, nutrition, food safety, sanitary and phytosanitary issues, natural resource management, agricultural biotechnology, agricultural economics, and agricultural policy. By improving participants' understanding of agricultural science, the program helps foster science-based trade policies that improve international market access for U.S. agricultural products.

Borlaug Fellowship Program: Special Programs

Applying

Accepting Applications for 2020 Borlaug Fellowships

Applying for the Borlaug Fellowship Program

FOR MORE INFORMATION PLEASE OPEN THIS LINK

https://www.fas.usda.gov/programs/borlaug-fellowship-program

Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program 2020 (Funded to the US)

A significant number of these individuals have had their education interrupted, severely impacting their potential for future success. The Columbia University Scholarship for Displaced Students (CUSDS) is an effort to combat this unprecedented humanitarian and economic loss by providing displaced students with the opportunity to pursue higher education at Columbia University, one of the leading educational institutions in the world.

Started in 2016 by the Columbia Business School’s Tamer Center for Social Enterprise, and now administered by the Columbia Global Centers, the Scholarship supports displaced students from anywhere in the world who are unable to complete their higher education. These students will receive full tuition, housing, and living assistance while pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees across all 18 Columbia schools and affiliates, reflecting Columbia’s full institutional commitment to addressing this global crisis. As the first-ever Columbia-wide scholarship, and the world's first scholarship of its kind, this program will commit up to $6 million annually in support, per cohort, for up to 30 students each year. Mentoring and support will be provided by the Scholarship, as well as by schools and student groups at Columbia.

The Scholarship aims to shift the global dialogue surrounding displaced persons, from one that views them as a burden to one that recognizes them as vital contributors to global innovation and prosperity. Currently, there is no initiative like this at any university in the world, despite the obvious desire for education on the part of these displaced student populations. The Columbia University Scholarship for Displaced Students aims to be a leader in filling this pressing humanitarian need and will hopefully encourage other universities to follow suit.

For more information:

Website: http://globalcenters.columbia.edu/CUSDS

Email: CUSDS@columbia.edu

(Please read all information below

Columbia University Scholarship 2020/2021 for Displaced Students Worldwide (Fully-funded)

The need to invest in grooming strong, results-oriented leaders comes out of the statistics: nearly 1 in 3 Africans are between the ages of 10 and 24, and approximately 60% of Africa’s total population is below the age of 35.

Who will empower and lead these young Africans? Who will shape the future of business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, and public management? In order to answer these questions, YALI promotes three models designed to identify and empower young leaders: the YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship, YALI Network, and the Regional Leadership Centers across Africa. To learn more about the three components of YALI, please view this video https://www.facebook.com/U.S.EmbassyNairobi/videos/10153783687858694/.

WHAT ARE YALI REGIONAL LEADERSHIP CENTERS?
There are four Regional Leadership Centers (Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa). These Centers serve as regional hubs across the continent to encourage transformational learning and enhancing leadership skills. The YALI Regional Leadership Centers are a project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in close partnership with The MasterCard Foundation. Each Regional Leadership Center is managed under a public/private partnership.

WHAT IS THE YALI REGIONAL LEADERSHIP CENTER EAST AFRICA?

The YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa, located at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya serves 14 countries in East and Central Africa: Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. The Center is overseen by Deloitte East Africa and is supported by a growing number of African and international partners.

Selected participants will engage in leadership training across three tracks of study: (1) Business and Entrepreneurship, (2) Civic Leadership, and (3) Public Management in a 4-week residential format with a focus on individual and team leadership skills, innovation, creative learning, and communication.
